OLC stands for Online Creation. This is the act of building an area using commands within the MUD. The area is "live" and all MUD commands and functions are available using this method. Another method of creation is to use an offline program, such as ORB, to build an area and then attach it to the MUD. This method does not allow you to test the area under "real world" conditions, but it does allow you to work when the MUD is down and to have fewer distractions from players. DoD has a third option, which is the build port. A replica of DoD is available at this port and builders may work here utilizing all the commands available on the main port, but without having to be an Immortal within the main game. Once an area is complete, a high-level Imm will need to transfer the area from the build port to the main port.
