Arena
From dodWiki
| At the Arena in Blackmoor, a player may challenge another player to a PvP battle, whether that player is deadly or peaceful. There are no lasting consequences to this battle as both players will be restored to their pre-fight state once a victor is declared. The death/victory is not recorded on either character's score. Players must be at least level 5 to participate in the Arena. |

Sequence of events
The 'arena' command is used for setting up battles between players. When a player is challenged to an arena battle, an automated countdown is broadcast over the arenatalk channel. If the player does not come to the Arena and accept the challenge before the countdown ends, the challenge will be considered declined. No travel is necessary to decline a challenge - it can be done from anywhere within the MUD. Once a player has accepted a challenge, the preparatory stage begins. A new countdown to battle is broadcast over the arenatalk channel. Other players may now make bets on the fight. Both players are transported to a "green room" near the arena battlefield where they may warmup, spell-up, and otherwise prepare for battle. When the second countdown ends, each player is transported to a random spot within the arena. Once one player finds the other, combat may be initiated by using the 'murder' command or any appropriate spell or skill. The victor is announced over the arenatalk channel.

Betting
As you would expect, you may not bet on arena battles in which you participate. The maximum bet allowed is 9999 cp. A successful bet returns 150% (1.5 x the original bet). The victorious player also gets 25% of every bet that was made on it. Losing bets get nothing.
Observing Arena battles
To observe the battle from above, give the Arena Gatekeeper 100 cp. To look into the arena section below you, type 'look arena'. You may need to move around to discover the section where the combat is taking place. When you are finished observing, say "I want to leave" (no period at the end).
Free-for-Alls and tournaments
Immortals have the ability to initiate free-for-alls and tournaments where multiple characters can participate. In free-for-alls, all players fight at the same time and the last player standing is the victor. For tournaments, players spar one-on-one, the victor advancing to fight the next opponent and the loser being kicked out of the Arena. At the imm's discretion, multiplaying may be allowed during a free-for-all or tournament. To participate in one of these group battles, go to the Arena gatekeeper and type 'arena join'.
Etiquette
- If someone challenges you to an arena battle and you are not interested in fighting, please type 'arena decline' rather than waiting for the countdown to run out.
- By the same token, if a player declines an arena challenge and tells you that they are not interested, don't keep challenging them. Repeatedly harassing a player with arena challenges is considered spamming.
- Most players consider it to be poor form to utilize vast stockpiles of heal scrolls in arena combat. If both players have ample resources in this regard, arena battles can be unnecessarily long. However, this is not expressly forbidden. It is the responsibility of the challenger to set the 'noheal' flag if that ground rule is desired.
- Although the arena gate is a safe room, the surrounding town is not. Be aware that crafty deadly players may use the arena to lure other deadlies out into the open, usually staking out the room just before the arena gate. While this is a cheap shot, it is absolutely acceptable within the rules of PvP.
- Fixing fights for the purpose of maximizng profit is frowned upon. An imm may stop an arena battle at any time for any reason.
